OVERVIEW

Overnight Desert Safari Camping Experience

This is Qatar’s desert in full — not a few hours passing through it, but a complete day and night spent inside it, from the first dune crossing to the following morning’s sunrise.

The experience opens with a private drive south as the city gives way to open desert, starting with a traditional camel ride before the adventure builds through your choice of ATV or dune buggy, a 4×4 dune bashing drive, sandboarding and multiple photography stops along the way. The journey continues to Khor Al Adaid, the Inland Sea, where the dunes meet the Arabian Gulf, before heading to camp as the sun begins to set. The evening brings a BBQ dinner, campfire atmosphere and a sky far removed from any city light, before morning arrives with breakfast at camp and one last look at the desert before the return journey to Doha. It’s adventure, heritage, landscape and genuine stillness, all within one overnight escape.

Itinerary Highlights

01

Desert Journey

Leave Doha behind in a private 4×4 as the city gradually gives way to open desert, the landscape shifting from roads and buildings into the first stretches of sand and dune.

02

Camel Base Camp & Camel Ride

Begin at a desert camel base camp, where a traditional camel ride offers a first taste of the desert and a direct connection to a way of life that shaped the Arabian Peninsula for centuries. It’s a relaxed, photo-friendly start to the day, with the ride’s exact duration depending on operating conditions and the overall itinerary.

03

Dune Buggy or ATV Quad Bike Experience

Choose your way into the desert’s more active side: a dune buggy, driven yourself through designated terrain, or an ATV quad bike, ridden through its own set of desert trails. Either way, this is where the adventure shifts from riding along to taking the controls. Vehicle choice, riding duration and availability should be confirmed at the time of booking.

04

Dune Bashing Adventure

From the camel camp, the real adventure begins — a 4×4 dune bashing drive across Qatar’s rolling sand dunes, as the vehicle climbs, dips and navigates the constantly shifting desert terrain. It’s the safari’s main adrenaline highlight, and a completely different way to experience the scale of the desert than looking at it from a distance.

05

Sandboarding

At selected points along the route, there’s time to try sandboarding — sliding down the dunes on a board for a different, more physical way to engage with the landscape. The activity is adjusted to suit the group’s comfort and the conditions on the day.

06

Multiple Desert Photography Stops

Throughout the safari, your guide will stop at some of the desert’s best viewpoints for photography — the dunes change character constantly depending on the light and the angle, and these stops give you time to properly capture the scale of the landscape rather than catching it through a moving window. Exact locations and the number of stops can vary depending on weather, route and time available.

07

Inland Sea — Khor Al Adaid

Reach Khor Al Adaid, the Inland Sea, where Qatar’s golden dunes meet the waters of the Arabian Gulf — one of the country’s most striking natural landscapes, and well worth the time to simply take it in before continuing toward camp.

08

Sunset in the Desert

As the afternoon fades, watch the desert change colour as the sun sets over the dunes — a natural, peaceful hinge between the day’s adventure and the evening ahead at camp.

09

Desert Camp

Arrive at the desert camp and settle in for the night. Depending on the camp selected, this may include traditional seating areas, tents, dining facilities, lighting and other essential amenities — a proper base for an evening spent entirely under open sky.

10

BBQ Dinner & Evening Experience

Settle in for a BBQ dinner and refreshments at camp, followed by a relaxed evening around the fire. Depending on the camp’s setup, the night may include traditional entertainment or other activities alongside the simple pleasure of being out in the desert after dark.

11

Desert Night & Stargazing

With the city’s lights left far behind, the desert sky opens up in a way it rarely does anywhere else in Qatar. Spend the evening relaxing at camp, photographing the night sky, or simply taking in the quiet — stargazing conditions depend on weather and cloud cover and can’t be guaranteed, but on a clear night, this is often the part of the trip guests remember most.

12

Sunrise in the Desert

Wake to first light breaking over the dunes — a completely different mood from the evening before, and another strong opportunity for photography as the desert colours shift once again.

13

Breakfast at the Camp

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at camp, with time to take in the surroundings one last time before packing up for the journey home.

14

Return Journey to Doha

After breakfast, begin the private 4×4 journey back to Doha, bringing the overnight experience to a close.
